What is Awamori?
Awamori is the traditional drink of Okinawa, Japan's southern tropical islands. It is an important drink to Okinawans and their distinct Ryukyu culture and history. How is Awamori and Sake different? Awamori is a rice spirit made from long grain rice, while sake is a brewed product made from short grain rice. Therefore, Awamori has a much higher ABV than sake and is often drunk on ice and diluted with water. However, both drinks are similar in that they are typically paired with food.

How do you drink Awamori?
Neat, on the rocks or mixed with soda water or other mixers. However, typically in Okinawa Awamori is served on the rocks with a pitcher of water, so you can dilute it to your own liking. Pairings Okinawan food is a lot saltier and often much more seasoned than Japanese food in general, so we recommend dishes that pack a punch. It goes great with a big variety of Chinese cuisine as well as Thai, Vietnamese and other South East Asian dishes too.
