Collection: Okuto Shoji

Japanese name: 奥藤商事

From: Hyogo prefecture

Founded in: 1601

This brewery values loyalty to traditional sake-making the most. The name of its brand also reflects such devotion: Chushingura (literally, “The Treasury of Loyal Retainers”) is the title of a series of theatrical plays telling the story of 47 samurai who had lost their master and waited patiently for two years before revenging his death. The plays draw from historical facts, and the real characters were from the port town of Ako, where Okuto Shoji is based. Even more, the brewery used to provide sake for the same feudal lord protagonist of this famous story! They still use rice from the surrounding Harima region and water from the Chikusa River.
